Neela (Pearl) & Ricky (Grey & White)
You know some cockatiels live for over 10-12 years, and I want to make sure my birds don't have to go through too much stress by going to new homes, and having to deal with change, too much!
So, if you are pretty sure you are prepared to commit to being their new family? I want to make sure my babies will be loved and adored as much as I love them with at least amoun of stress as possible!
Neela (the tame one), sits on my shoulder all the time, she stays there when I go out of my apt to get the mail and she doesn't even fly away! In the apt. she likes to fly around with Ricky and land on my head. He just keeps his distance watching until I put her on the floor, then he joins her and they just walk around exploring everything.
She loves getting her head scratched...her and ricky need to fly around once in awhile to stay in shape, so they don't get too fat.
Where ever you put neela, Ricky will follow. Ricky is starting to get better at socializing, but is still a scaredy cat. He won't step up-!
I usually put neela in her cage, he follows, then I take her out and put her in the other cage. I don't like to let them to stay together too much or they start pecking each other. He is hormonally deprived, thats why I think he is slow to tame. She just doesn't want anything to do with mating. I don't know why.
He can bite hard but only if he feels threatened, it's the flight or fight attitude. Sometimes he bites soft like he's just pecking..He does allow you to clean his cage, feed him, and give him frest water. And spray him. He will just go to the top of the cage or in the corner out of the way, while your doing or cleaning it, He's more afraid of you than anything else. Advoiding anything to do with capture! I have been working with him, but he's a nervous bird and will need more time to be able to trust people. He's much better than he was when, I first got him, almost a year ago. I've had neela for 2 years. He sings really pretty, males usually do! Neela just squaks for attention and watches him show off.
You do realize that birds get stressed really easy, and it will take awhile for them to begin to trust you. It will take a couple or few weeks or months for them to get used to you and there new surroundings and noises. Of course birds don't like lound noises-makes them nervous. Cockatiels are very social birds and are sensitive to your reactions towards them, their really smart too!
I put a cover over there cages at night. They need to be sprayed with water every so often, so they keep there feathers clean.
So, if after reading this, you think you would be a good match for them, when would you like to get your new family members? I am asking 150.00 rehoming fee, that includes 2 large cages, 1small carring cage, all their toys, dishes, food, info. mags.
I've paid 500.00 for everything including the birds...so you are getting a great deal!
Thanks for your time , patience and attention! Jeanne
