Gov D4386's story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.
Govs approximate Date of birth is 4/1/18. We presume he is a lab mix. However, he loves to howl like a wolf while sitting on his foster moms fire table out on her deck while she is playing in the dirt rearranging the plant life instead of paying attention to him. He is very intrigued by my gardening. Gov is an adventure. In his eyes when I tell his foster siblings your foster brother is Crazy he must think to himself. Well I havent met Crazy yet but he sure sounds like a pup Id get along with. Gov has been a little shy. I often lay on the ground as to be on his level and he runs to me very excited but still almost cringes when I reach out to pet him. He is very unsure but boy is he a lover at bed time after hes warmed up. Gov really loves to cuddle but like I mentioned it takes him a minute or two to make sure its okay. This is of course after hes expelled his bounds of energy playing with his foster siblings. Gov absolutely adores his foster siblings. At this point I am convinced he is more comfortable with other dogs over people. He likes the neighbor kids when they come over to play with the dogs, however, he is a typical puppy. By that I mean everyone and everything is a chew toy and of course he has sharp teeth and sharp claws. You wont even see it coming he will rocket after you as fast as he can and do a drive by nibble. While Gov loves to play with his foster siblings he does get a little carried away. A video demonstration will be sent. While in the video you can see he viciously shakes and growls. This being said if this is part of his personality I would recommend him in a home with another dog who has a more carefree personality. Being that he is a puppy its hard to tell but I think he may prefer to be the dominant one. So a home with a dog who is just living life to love life and also loves to play would be a good match for him. He has no food aggression which is great. I feed him with my other babies and he doesnt seem to mind that they are there. Larry is a stinker and wants what everyone else has over his own so at the beginning of dinner time every night Larry tries to investigate Boots and Govs bowls and when he realizes mom is serious about eat your own food he eats his own. This doesnt seem to bother Gov one bit. I have been practicing with petting him while he eats as well and he doesnt seem to mind this either. Most of the time he seems to prefer it actually. Like with most human interactions he is unsure at first and wants constant reassurement what he is doing is okay. That is except when it comes to chewing my shoes. Gov isnt a fan of his kennel, however, he offers little resistance when I put him in it. When he gets enough exercise before bed he wont whine in his kennel. Once this week he didnt get a lot before bed time so he was upset and barked for us. We are working on this and encouraging with treats. Potty training is a fail at this point. He seems to be afraid to go to the bathroom. He holds everything in until he cant hold it in any longer and its a mess. If he sees that I look at him when he is peeing he gets afraid and runs while peeing making beautiful art on the hardwood. His foster siblings routine might be helping. We havent had a day without an accident yet but I think he is somewhat getting better. I havent found the best approach yet to potty training as he is so sensitive about it but we will work through it. Other things Gov likes: tug of war, watching the fish tank and attempting to fly off the couch. If Gov had a motto it would probably be if at first you dont succeed try again 10 more times.. as fast and with as much force as possible.. even if bounce off the couch and land on your head the first 9 times.. the couch cannot defeat me. All in all his quirky self outweighs his flaws and flaws can be worked through with training and patience.
